The new… this is all we get Apple?
As a self-proclaimed gadget geek I can’t tell you the pre-event excitement I had this week for Apple’s “It’s Only Rock N’ Roll” event which is a showcase for new products. Internet speculation suggested all sorts of possibilities from a Mac Netbook to a iPod Touch with a camera/video camera. My wishes included the confirmation that Verizon Wireless will someday become a carrier for a future iPhone 4G. Or how about a quality laptop in the under $1,000 range with a decent screen and lots of Memory.
With all the hype of the September 9, 2009 “It’s Only Rock N’ Roll” event it is hard to believe that the biggest news is that the iPod Nano now includes a crappy VGA camera for taking stills and video. Video that is shown on the Apple website as being nearing HD quality which is a straight out lie. The actual video quality of the camera is way less than what is being advertised. Various Internet blogs are suggesting that the new iPod Nano will take away consumers from the Flip Video market. Not gonna happen.
Apple is really starting to disappoint me with there sub-par product releases. Look at the iPhone 3Gs which barely offers enough new features to warrant paying for the upgrade. If you were like me, you purchased a iPhone 3g only to see a new model out less than 6 months later with a $399 price to get the iPhone 3Gs. We all cheered when we heard that Apple would be selling the upgrade to it’s newest OS, Snow Leopard for only $29.00. After installing the new OS it looks and feels like it should have been a free software update. Where are the new features? Where is the flare, the bling? At least Microsoft makes there OS upgrades look and act like an upgrade for better or worse. As a multiple PC user I really love Apple products but have higher expectations for what they have been offering.
There were some announcements that I thought were cool like the return of the iPod Classic 160GB and the addition of a 64GB iPod Touch. The newly designed iTunes 9 seems really nice including the improved iTunes Store. Apple also announced a new audio format called iTunes LP which will be a multimedia version of a normal album purchase combining music with videos, on-screen lyrics and more.
Are you buying a iPod Nano for the video recording capabilities?
